Tembisan.co.za / Mother reunited with her daughter.
A long-lost four-year-old child was handed over, on 23 December last year, to her biological mother at the Tembisa Police Station by Interpol and the Tembisa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the child was stolen during December 2014, lured by a woman at Vusimuzi section in Tembisa.
“The woman found the child playing with her sibling on the street. As she is known by the children she called the four-year-old. The woman gave her fruit and eventually convinced the little girl to go with her.
“A neighbour witnessed everything and saw her going away with the child. When the 22-year-old mother came back she started to look for her child. The witness told her that the tenant in the same yard had gone away with the child. The mother opened a case of child theft with the police at Tembisa South,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
“The case was assigned to Const Mahlatse Mabokela who followed the case and contacted the family of the 27-year-old suspect. The suspect had told her family that the child was the daughter she gave birth to in South Africa.
“The investigating officer contacted the Interpol office in Pretoria to assist in tracing the victim and suspect in Mozambique. Interpol contacted their counterparts in Mozambique. The child was traced by the police in Mozambique.”
Capt Ralidzhivha said because of the interaction between the two policing departments both victim and suspect were traced.
“The child was taken to a place of safety.
“The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and detained in Mozambique. A case of human trafficking which was registered against her and placed on the court roll in the Mozambique Magistrates Court will soon be finalised in the Mozambique High Court,” he said.
Tembisa police station commander Brig Johann Jacobs praised Const Mahlatse Mabokela, Sgt Sepakela and Sgt Mamogale for their dedication in the investigation of the case.
“Working together we make a difference. I am happy that we have reunited the mother with her child,” said Tembisa Police station commander Brig Jacobs.
