Mozambique: Total Energies denies suspension of subcontracted companies - AIM
Staff at Independent Television of Mozambique (TIM) are on strike over what they claim are wage arrears dating back as long as six months.
After months of broken promises, about a hundred TIM employees left their desks on Wednesday morning and sat out on the steps. The offices were deserted and broadcasts suspended. Workers’ representatives say they have written letters to shareholders and management, but promises of payment have not been fulfilled.
“They said they would pay last Friday, but didn’t. They claimed that, it being Friday, the banks were taking their time, so we waited until Monday – and, nothing. Tuesday the same. Yesterday we decided to stop working to put pressure on our employers to pay our salaries,” one of the striking workers said.
Independent Television of Mozambique (TIM) has been on air since 2007 and broadcasts to Maputo, Beira, Quelimane, Nampula, Pemba, Tete and Songo. It is working on plans to extend coverage to Mozambique’s remaining provinces as well.
