Eight containers filled with synthetic grass and other sports equipment donated to the Mozambican Football Federation by the African Football Federation as part of a development program are to be auctioned off in the next few days to pay custom and storage fees due on them.
The material in question is held in Maputo port terminal, where ten containers in total were unloaded at the Port of Maputo in December 2015. The Mozambican Football Federation managed to extract only two containers, whose contents were reportedly deployed to the Mario Esteves Coluna Football Academy.
Container storage costs at the port have now reached ten million meticais, which the Mozambican Football Federation does not have. Customs regulations put the container storage costs at an estimated US$100 a day, calculated from the ten-day deadline for their removal.
