Mozambique: Washing cars on a street corner as a means to escape a life of crime

A dead body of a South African man who died whilst visiting a traditional healer in Mozambique was dumped by his relatives at the Matsamo border gate after failing to explain the cause of his death.
The corpse was left in a coffin by relatives who could not provide police and immigration officers with a conclusive cause of his death and how the dead man’s body entered the country from Mozambique.
This happened on Tuesday night at around 7pm.
While it is not clear where the body is kept now, sources close to the matter revealed that the coffin carrying the corpse was left at the border where it remained for some time after the relatives abandoned it.
When this newspaper’s team arrived at the border yesterday, no one wanted to say where or who took the coffin and the body after it was abandoned by the relatives.
Swazi sources revealed that the body is of a South African male in his late 30s.
“It was abandoned at the Matsamo border Post at around 7pm last night (Tuesday) after the South African immigration officers refused the corpse entry into South Africa because the corpse had a non-conclusive medical report,” stated the source.
It remains a mystery how the local police and immigration officers cleared the corpse both when entering the country from Mozambique and when being transported to South Africa where it was to be buried.
“Relatives brought the corpse from Mozambique and entered through Lavumisa from where it was transported by road all the way to Matsamo.
“It was cleared from the Swazi side without any problems but when it got to the South African side the South African immigration officers asked what was the cause of death and due to the lack of proper explanation provided by the Mozambican health services they denied the body entry,’’ added the source.
The South African source stated that out of frustration and anger, the relatives abandoned the body at the South African immigration structure.
They had indicated they would travel back to Mozambique and hopefull get the documentation needed.
It is unclear if they would get the documentation because it emerged during the discussions that the dead man died while consulting a traditional healer in Mozambique.
There are fears the corpse might decompose because it is unclear if where it is kept is suitable for such purposes.
