A South African citizen has been detained by the Mozambican police in Maputo in possession of 14,300 counterfeit South African Rands, worth about 74,000 meticais (EUR 990).
The individual was caught at the Junta bus terminal in Maputo trying to change 600 Rands for a person about to travel to South Africa.
The individual says he did not know the notes were false, but the PRM says he is part of a money-laundering ring that has long been sought, following complaints from both South Africans and Mozambicans.
