Bidvest Wits say winger Elias Pelembe is still one of their players but have confirmed that he remains stranded in Mozambique.
The veteran attacker is yet to reunite with the Clever Boys after the government gave permission for Premier Soccer League clubs to resume training.
The 36-year-old returned to his native country when the Covid-19 lockdown happened, and he is not yet allowed to return as the border remains closed.
“Yeah, he is (still a Wits player), he’s just stuck in Mozambique,” Wits CEO Jonathan Schloss told KickOff.
“So immediately when he crosses the border, he will come. I can’t do it without him (renew Pelembe’s contract).”
Wits plan to give Pelembe an extension to his contract which expires at the end of June, to allow him to see out the rest of the 2019/20 campaign.
“Yes, that is now our purpose, but it depends when he comes back. If he comes back and we are already two games left, then no. But if he comes back before we go to the bubble and he’s fit, it’s a different story,” Schloss added.
“He will come back when he comes back, and we’ll always be open for it. Pelembe’s been with us for years.”
