South Africa has asked for the rest of this week to explain the killing of two Mozambican police officers in the Ponta do Ouro border area, said Bernardino Rafael, Mozambique’s Commander-in-Chief of Police, during a visit to the crime scene held on Friday, O País reports.
About two weeks after two Mozambican Border Guard officers were killed by South African military personnel, a Mozambican police contingent went to the place where they were shot, in the Ponta do Ouro border, to honour the victims, depositing a wreath and observing a minute’s silence.
The commander-in-chief of the Mozambican police lauded the commitment of the slain officers to the security of the border, and promised the construction of a memorial in their honour.
Commander-in-Chief Rafael led a parade at the site and encouraged police officers at the Ponta do Ouro border post with South Africa not to be intimidated by what had happened.
