Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Wednesday Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab sends funds to jihadists in Mozambique, Nigeria and elsewhere in the world.
Speaking to dozens of Somali commandos, who were receiving training at a Turkish military facility in Isparta, Mohamud said militants in Somalia collect revenue some of which they use to support other Al-Qaeda affiliates and jihadists across Africa.
I visited our brave soldiers undergoing commando training in Isparta, Turkey, with the assistance of the #Turkish government. I met some great future #Somali military officers & leaders & I am proud of them all. We are grateful to Türkiye for this valuable security assistance. pic.twitter.com/9T75JszoI7

In a speech at Seta think-tank in Ankara, Somali President said his administration had introduced a new policy based on militaristic, economic and ideological war against Al-Shabaab to eliminate it and bring an end to its more than a decade-long insurgency war. He was currently “not in a position to negotiate with” militants but would do so when deemed right, he added.
Re-elected in May, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pledged to preside over a period of political stability by reconciling other stakeholders to proceed with complete federalization of the country, a process that has been punctuated by power struggles over the past decade. He has not yet promised to fight graft that drew an international criticism during his previous term after his allies in the government enriched themselves in state coffers.
