Moz Beverages Ltd, manufacturer of soft drink Izy, located in Matola, Maputo Province, has been sanctioned by the General Inspectorate of Labour (IGT) over its hygiene and safety at work standards, reports A Verdade.
According to an IGT statement, the firm is exposing employees and the general public to various safety and health risks.
“The factory lacks sanitary facilities for workers, as well as appropriate personal protection equipment such as washable footwear, gloves, masks and earmuffs, as required by the nature of the work. Given the gravity of the situation in terms of public health, the Provincial Inspectorate of Health has already been alerted,” says the document.
The actions “took into account the fact that this is a soft drink manufacturing facility making a product for direct human consumption which was being manufactured and handled improperly, without the workers wearing the necessary and appropriate equipment for the type of activity carried on there”.
The company employs 19 workers, six of Indian nationality, whom the IGT decided to suspend with immediate effect on account of “serious irregularities in their employment, specifically for having violated the Labour Law (Law 23/2007 of 1 August) and the Regulations on the Mechanisms and Procedures for Hiring Foreign Nationality Citizens, approved by Decree No. 55/2008, of 30 December”.
The suspended workers are Manish Kumar, Vineet Kumar, Om Prakash Mishra, Abhisher Tiware, Haadip Singh and Mohamedazim Bashir Patel.
