The sale of sesame has paid producers in Marínguè district, Sofala province, about 400 million meticais this year (around US$5.6 million at current exchange rates).
The approximately 14,000 tons of sesame was grown over an area of about 150 hectares.
Marínguè district permanent secretary Afonso Makaima said that most of the product was exported to India, after passing through a processing unit in the city of Beira.
The official said that, despite the weak demand for sesame caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and a subsequent price drop, sales had been going well.
