Mafambisse sugar mill in Sofala province, is to start producing sugar fortified with vitamin A, according to a press release sent to Lusa.
“The main goal is the balanced nutrition of the Mozambican population, with an emphasis on children,” the Mozambican Sugar Producers Association statement said.
The Mozambican Sugar Producers Association initiative is coordinated by the Food Fortification Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and funded by the World Food Program (WFP).
Vitamin A-fortified sugar will have a unique seal to facilitate product identification and control.
The project was officially launched yesterday at a ceremony attended by Mozambican Minister of Industry and Commerce, Max Tonela.
