Snakes have brought a wave of fear and terror to Manica over the past five months, attacking about 65 people in the city’s neighbourhoods.
According to AIM, 53 of the victims were adults and the other twelve under 15 years old, but no fatalities were recorded.
Patricio Araujo, the clinical director of the Provincial Hospital in Chimoio, said the Piloto, 7 de Abril, Soalpo, 5 Fepom, Heróis Moçambicano and Nhamadjessa neighbourhoods had reported the most bites in this latest period.
He explained that most of the bites occurred in neighbourhoods where the population was expanding into the animals’ natural habitat.
