Mozambique: Pollution forces fishermen to stop fishing in Manica - AIM report
The Denmark-funded Agro-Jovem program is now up and running in 16 mid- and high-level educational establishment which signed partnership agreements with Gapi-SI in Maputo on 20 July this year.
The Agro-Jovem Program aims to help educational institutions boost entrepreneurship among young graduates, especially in business development with a positive impact on food security.
The signing, which marked the beginning of the second phase of the Agro-Jovem Program, was attended by representatives of embassies and ministries, who congratulated Gapi for helping boost entrepreneurship among the young and generating employment.
Seven education institutions participated in the first phase of the program, which in 2016 secured the financing of 12 businesses totalling eight million meticais. Programme manager Rui Amaral said at the time that these businesses between them employed 66 young people.
To ensure the success of the second phase, partner institutions participated in an entrepreneurship development programme from July 19 to 21. Teachers who benefited from the training will now serve as mentors for future entrepreneurs in their own educational institutions.
“Gapi is the best channel that Denmark has found to support Mozambique in tackling unemployment. It is a solid, results-orientated institution that is sustainable and effective. With We expect Agro-Jovem to increase employability, and we know that Gapi is the right institution for this purpose,” Danish ambassador Johnny Flento said.
Managing Director of Gapi, António Souto, said: “Gapi has taken up the challenge of designing and implementing the Agro-Jovem Program with the aim of contributing to the improvement of our youth, since we are committed to supporting a new generation in achieving their dreams as entrepreneurs.”
Pilot phase partner institutions were unanimous in confirming that the program was responsible for great advances in the quality of student training, awakening a more creative and enterprising mentality, which would in turn contribute to both their own employability and the country’s development.
