Sipho Pityana lashes out at President Zuma at Stofile funeral – Watch

As South Africans paid tribute to former Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile, the African National Congress was heavily criticised by businessman and former trade unionist Sipho Pityana, who says the ruling party is in crisis.

Pityana spoke at the funeral as a family friend. In his speech he reminded mourners of a Xhosa hymn, Zemk’inkomo magwala ndini (Wake up, the cows are being stolen while you people are sitting doing nothing) by the late Walter Benson Rhubasana.

He says the ANC is a movement in denial and it is time for new leadership.

Which ANC is this? Without any conference resolutions, that makes statements which attack judges as counter revolutionary.

Pityana said if President Jacob Zuma was present at the funeral, he would have asked him to step down.

I am very disappointed that the president is not here because I prepared the speech in anticipation that he will be here.

Pityana described Stofile as a development activist and revolutionary who died with his boots on.

He was destined and grounded to become a public servant in leadership and government.

He always reminded me of what Oliver Tambo said… that there is an important qualification that Oliver Tambo raised, that we should be cadres with questioning loyalty.

Stofile died last week at the age of 72.
