The number of arrests for shoplifting in the capital is on the rise. Shopkeepers say they are counting the cost of many small thefts perpetrated by men and women alike.
Theft from supermarkets and small grocery shops in the capital of the country has been growing, worrying sellers who say that in many cases the crimes are carried despite security cameras on the premises.
This video is of a young man involved in shoplifting. He enters a supermarket on Vladimir Lenin Avenue and calmly browses the shelves, apparently already familiar with the location. He looks around, and as soon as he sees the saleswoman is distracted, he steals a cell phone and walks out.
This is just one example, but there are many more cases described by vendors.
Even while taking their purchases to the car, customers should be on their guard, because supermarket employees themselves sometimes take advantage of the situation.
