A fisherman identified as Julio has been attacked and killed by a shark while fishing off the city of Maxixe in Inhambane province.
Fisherman colleague José Muendane was a mere five meters away when he saw the water swirling and realized his companion was being attacked.
Julio was unable to survive the injuries to his abdomen and legs and his body now lies in the morgue at Chicuque Rural Hospital.
Still in shock, José says it will be difficult to resume fishing after what he had seen, but, for lack of any alternative, he will have to do so.
Friends and family at the victim’s home say they are in shock. This is the second fatal attack in the area in a month, and the cause of considerable concern in the local community.
