The rector of the Technical University of Mozambique, Severino Ngoenha, took over as chairman of the National Council of Rectors of Mozambique at an extraordinary session of the body on Wednesday.
On the occasion, Professor Ngoenha urged the conclusion of the higher education academic year without compromising the quality of training.
“We have to end the year by guaranteeing that those predicted contents are transmitted. We do not want to leave any student behind, but that cannot mean facilitation or simplification, nor can it ignore the content that is strictly indispensable for the progression of students in life and in the world of work,” Professor Ngoenha.
At the time of the election, philosopher Severino Ngoenha was acting president of the Council of Rectors of Mozambique.
Ngoenha called on universities to prioritise the use and mastery of information and communication technologies in order to respond to the challenges the pandemic imposed on education.
“All universities must be aware of a radical change in pedagogy since 2019. Before, phones and computers were instruments of entertainment for many people. From now on, they must be instruments by means of which we will transmit knowledge to people,” some of them in “the remotest parts of the country”, he added.
The Council of Rectors of Mozambique now includes rectors from UniSave, UniPúngué, UniLiCungo and UniRovuma.
