Seven people are missing after a service boat carrying signing crew capsized yesterday alongside the Scorpio-managed oil/chemical tanker Sea Quest off Beira outer anchorage in Mozambique.
The vessel, carrying personnel for the 2012-built MR2 tanker, formerly STI Ruby, had 21 people onboard. Fourteen were rescued, but seven, including five signing crewmembers, are still unaccounted for.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) has been notified, and nearby ships are assisting in ongoing search and rescue operations. Three of the survivors are receiving medical care onboard the tanker, with arrangements for further treatment underway.
Local authorities have assured that search operations will continue to attempt to locate the seven missing sailors.
Scorpio Marine Management, the operator of Sea Quest, has said that it is contact with the families of the missing crew while coordinating closely with Mozambican authorities regarding the ongoing search and rescue operation and the pending investigation into the incident.
