The Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development, through the Conservation Areas Administration (ANAC), has announced that it has captured seven lions threatening the lives of residents in Década da Vitória village in the district of Massingir, Gaza Province.
According to a statement sent to Radio Mozambique, six of the seven captured lions were taken to a conservation area protected by an electric fence for future reintroduction into Zinave National Park.
The ANAC decided to euthanize a lioness which had killed a citizen so as to prevent any recurrence, the document said.
Another operation – to relocate buffalo destroying the local population’s crops – is underway in the same area.
