Seven countries will be battling it out on Monday in Maputo for the African Sailing Championship. In addition to Mozambique, crews from South Africa, Angola, Algeria, Mauritius, Seychelles and Tunisia will compete.
For the Mozambican Sailing and Canoeing Federation, this is a great opportunity for the country to strengthen its ability to organise this type of event, after the experience of the Maputo African Games 2011, and to launch athletes who are likely to win medals, as has been happening in such championships.
The competition will take place from the Maritime Club and involve craft of Laser 420, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 classes. The championships, which will see a Mozambican women’s team participating for the first time, end with the prize giving next Saturday.
