SERNIC was created in 2017, replacing the Criminal Investigation Police, and with the aim of conferring greater administrative autonomy on the service, the better to combat crime.
One of the expected innovations is the introduction of DNA research and video cameras in public places.
The National Director of Criminal Investigation and Instruction, Januário Cumbane, says that the process of improving and organising the SERNIC database is in progress.
In the evaluation of SERNIC’s two years of existence, Cumbane highlighted the institution’s contribution to reducing violent crimes in the country and speeding up the clarification of cases.
Cumbane said that there has been progress in recent times, with vehicles and cell phones boosting investigative activity.
As part of SERNIC’s two-year birthday celebrations, a football match took place between agents of the city and province of Maputo, along with various other socio-cultural activities.
