Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) is hot on the heels of the murderers who shot to death one of the corporation’s agents in Maputo early last Wednesday evening.
General Police Command spokesman Orlando Mudumane said the police were following all possible lines of enquiry.
The incident took place around 6:00 p.m. near the Instituto Industrial de Maputo on Avenida 24 de Julho, where individuals as yet unidentified are said to have killed a 37-year-old SERNIC agent by the name of Américo Alberto Nhone.
According to witnesses at the scene, the victim was chased by two individuals in a Toyota Mark X, who blocked his vehicle’s progress and opened fire.
“The victim was driving in the direction of the city police command on Avenida 24 de Julho. After his car was blocked, several shots were fired, followed by two of the occupants of the gunmen’s vehicle descending from their vehicle to make sure that the policeman was dead,” a witness approached by ‘Notícias’ said. A strong police presence descended on the scene of the crime shortly afterwards.
