SERNIC agents investigated over alleged involvement in extortion of Tanzanian citizen

The Provincial Office for Combating Corruption in Maputo province is investigating the alleged involvement of agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in the extortion of a foreign citizen, the institution’s spokeswoman, Sheila Nhamtumbo, reports.
The Tanzanian citizen was arrested on suspicion of being the alleged owner of 19.5 kilograms of an opium-type drug, derived from methamphetamine and heroin.
The drug was found recently on a Mozambican citizen trying to enter the country through the Ressano Garcia border crossing in Maputo province.
The agents allegedly requested a sum of US$150,000 plus four luxury vehicles from the Tanzanian citizen in exchange for his freedom.

O Gabinete Provincial de Combate a Corrupção, na província de Maputo, está a investigar o caso do suposto envolvimento dos agentes do Serviço Nacional de Investigação Criminal (SERNIC) na extorsão a um cidadão estrangeiro, segundo confirmou a porta-voz da instituição, Sheila Nhamtumbo.
Trata-se de um cidadão de nacionalidade tanzaniana detido após ser indiciado como suposto proprietário de 19,5 quilogramas de droga do tipo ópio, derivada de metanfetamina e heroína.
A droga foi encontrada recentemente com uma cidadã moçambicana que tentava entrar no país através da fronteira de Ressano Garcia, na província de Maputo,
Os agentes teriam supostamente solicitado uma quantia de cento e cinquenta mil dólares e quatro viaturas de luxo ao cidadão tanzaniano, em troca de liberdade.
