Senior Renamo member found dead in Maxixe, Mozambique

A senior member of the main opposition party, Renamo, was found dead on Monday 7 March, having disappeared on the afternoon of Saturday 5 March after leaving a mosque in Maxixe in Inhambane province, southern Mozambique.
Aly Jane’s death was suspected when his identity card was found near the Nhanombe river between Homoíne and Maxixe on Sunday, and his body was found in the river on Monday.
The body is said to show signs of torture and his feet tied. Witnesses said that, on the day he disappeared, Aly was not driving his car as usual.
Renamo and Frelimo have recently traded accusations about the persecution, kidnapping and murder of their members, especially in Tete and Sofala, with political differences the alleged motive.
