A 64-year-old private security guard was murdered at dawn yesterday (16 November) at his place of work in the city of Matola, Maputo province.
The incident occurred around 5.00 a.m., when a group of unknown individuals still at large, climbed the back wall of a shopping centre near the Mercado Santos. According to the authorities, the sole security guard on duty was bound and gagged before being hit on the head with a blunt instrument.
The killers’ attempts to get inside the paint shop were cut short when the alarm sounded, and they fled the scene with a welding machine and sundry goods of little value.
The body was being removed as the Noticias reporter arrived on the scene. Authorities have said they will try to find those responsible for the murder.
