Contractors in charge of rebuilding the bridge over the Save River are stranded in China by the Covid-9 pandemic, bringing activities in the province of Inhambane to a halt.
The rehabilitation of the bridge over the Save River, scheduled for completion in 2022 and budgeted at just over 5 billion meticais, began in September 2018 with the construction of the temporary bridge to redirect traffic.
Another major project underway in Inhambane is the rehabilitation of the 35km Pambara – Mangungumete section of National Highway Number 1.
The authorities in Inhambane warn of the need to increase capacity to mobilise resources to rehabilitate and build more access routes.
Seventy-five percent of Inhambane’s road network is unpaved, making it vulnerable to extreme weather and requiring greater attention in response to anomalies.
