Kenya interior minister accuses protesters of coup attempt after deadly demonstrations
AFP / Ethiopians have been employed in Saudi Arabia in building and domestic work.
Saudi Arabia yesterday extended the 90-day amnesty for undocumented migrants, reports the Ethiopian government linked news site Fana.
The amnesty ended on Tuesday but thousands of Ethiopians are still stuck in Saudi Arabia after it expired without all of them leaving, the Ethiopian government has said.
Communications Minister Negeri Lencho told the BBC that the government has asked for the amnesty to be extended.
The initial amnesty started on 29 March.
During this period any one in breach of the country’s residency and labour rules or regulations would be free to leave without facing any penalties.
Arab News reports that the amnesty has been extended by 30 days.
