Update: At least four dead and 37 injured as Cyclone Chido crosses Mozambique

In support of Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique (FADM), SAMIM forces launched an offensive operation against Al Sunnah wa Jama’ah (ASWJ) terrorists who had attacked Matemo Island. The terrorists believed to be led by one of their top leaders lost ground after suffering massive casualties while others incurred serious injuries.
SAMIM can however, confirm that they inflicted about eight (08) fatalities against the terrorists and recovered weapons and equipment used by the terrorists in this operation.
The offensive operations which are on-going, are expected to root out all elements of terrorism in the Matemo and Ibo Islands and make the area a safe place to live.

As mandated, SAMIM will continue working jointly with FADM forces and also coordinate collaboratively in other areas to ensure the safety of the Mozambican people is guaranteed. It is worthy to note that SAMIM will always act in a professional and dignified manner in conducting its operations.
In support of the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, SAMIM forces continue to create conditions necessary for a return to normal life in the Province of Cabo Delgado as it pursues the terrorists. SAMIM would like to assure the people of Mozambique and SADC of a collective commitment to achieving a peaceful, stable and secure Cabo Delgado Province as well as the entire country of the Republic of Mozambique.
