South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is in Germany to attend Tuesday’s G20 Africa Conference in Berlin, where the delegates are expected to discuss progress made on the G20 Partnership with Africa and the Compact with Africa (CwA) programme, the Presidency has said. The CwA was formally launched during the July 2017 G20 Hamburg Summit and comprises Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Tunisia, Togo and Burkina Faso, the high office said.
The CwA initiative is based on the premise that significant economic development could be achieved when African countries, G20 members, development partner countries, and international organisations worked together to create a better environment for private investment, the presidency said on Monday.
“This conference will therefore focus on ways in which the G20, African countries and development banks can cooperate to promote private investment and economic participation in Africa, while reflecting on the achievements and gains made since the Hamburg Summit of 2017,” the high office said.
Ramaphosa is also expected to deliver a keynote address in his capacity as Co-Chair of the G20 Africa Advisory Group at the G20 Investment Summit.
