Mozambique has banned imports of processed meat products from South Africa after a deadly listeria outbreak was linked to a factory there, the ministry of agriculture and food security said, reads a Reuters report.
“(Ministry) asks that all owners of establishments that commercialise these products start to withdraw from the shelves due to the danger that this constitutes to health,” a statement from the ministry said, cited by the same source.
O País reported that Mozambican authorities have banned all imports of chicken and its derivatives, pepper, polony, Viennas, Rachael’s Springfield Smoked Fish and other products from South African brands Enterprise and Rainbow Chicken. The products have been detected with the listeriosis virus, which has already made 180 deaths in the neighbouring country.
The listeriosis outbreak arose about three months ago in South Africa. It has been identified in chicken derivatives of brands Enterprise and Rainbow. As a means of preventing the disease from entering the country, the authorities have banned the importation of these products.
