Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is visiting Mozambique tomorrow (Wednesday) and will be welcomed by President Filipe Nyusi, the Mozambican government announced yesterday.
“The visit of the Russian minister to the country takes place within the framework of strengthening and deepening relations of friendship, solidarity and bilateral cooperation,” a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique says.
The visit is part of Lavrov’s ministerial tour of Africa, which also takes Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and Angola.

In addition to meeting the Mozambican head of state, the Russian foreign minister will also meet his Mozambican counterpart, José Pacheco.
“The leaders will review bilateral cooperation and exchange views on the political and economic situation of the two countries,” as well as “on issues of mutual interest in the international arena”, the ministry concludes.
