Mozambique: Government plans economic growth of 2.9 per cent - Watch

The European Union (EU) will spend 24 billion meticais (348 million Euros) on rural development projects Nampula and Zambezia provinces, a statement from the organisation sent to Lusa yesterday reveals.
The project will be implemented in coordination with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, and the EU funding will be used to build roads and energy sources, and develop nutrition and agricultural programmes.
Nampula, in northern Mozambique, and Zambezia, in the centre of the country, have been selected because they are Mozambique’s most populous provinces.
Work on the start-up of projects is already underway, with a joint EU-FAO mission led by the European Union Head of Cooperation Isabel Faria Almeida and FAO representative in Mozambique Olman Serrano at work assessing the agricultural potential of Nampula province since Monday.
“Promote Agribiz” succeeds the five-year Millennium Development Goals Achievement programme, which was budgeted at six billion meticais (87 million Euros).
