The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, expressed displeasure on Wednesday with the ongoing construction of a toll on the Macia-Bilene road in Gaza.
REVIMO, the company responsible for building the toll, had been instructed to install the toll station beyond the district hospital, so as to facilitate access to health services, but ignored the recommendation.
“For those who leave Macia for Bilene, before going up to the hospital, traffic usually has to go to the hospital,” Minister Mesquita said. “Traffic can involve the functionality of the hospital itself, or health emergencies which can be requested from the hospital or need to head there. So the placement of the toll has to be considered carefully in order for it not to compromise emergency services.”
The Minister is insisting that REVIMO present a solution that does not hinder access to health services by Monday.
