Mozambique: Cholera infects almost 1,000 in Nampula province since October

Nineteen people were killed and 73 wounded, 22 of them seriously, as a result of 28 road accidents on Mozambican roads last week. Crashes this year have already claimed the lives of more than 180 individuals and injured over 500, 200 seriously.
The numbers are relative to occurrences that have come to the attention of the Police, and there may be more cases which remain unknown to the public.
According to data from the 03 to 09 of March, provided by the General Police Command of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), of the 19 accidents, 14 were car / pedestrian trampling, eight vehicle crashes and three rollovers, among others.
The causes that were the origin of this disgrace include the usual excess of speed and the bad crossing of pedestrians, for example, A Verdade reports.
Regarding road surveillance, the work of the Traffic Police (PT) covered 37,406 vehicles, some of which, in number of 4,647, were fined for violation of the driving rules.
In the same operation, law enforcement officials arrested 34 alleged illegal motorists and seized at least 949 drivers’ licences to people driving under the influence of alcohol, said the PRM’s General Command.
Also according to this institution, 12 motorists were arrested for alleged attempts to bribe PT, with values varying from 50 to 200 meticais.
As far as this sector is concerned, the police has further seized 365 litres of diesel, 570 of motor oil and has seized 16 cars now parked at different police stations across the country.
