The manager of the Jumbo Group, Rizwan Nuruddin Adatia, was rescued in Mulotana, Maputo province, this morning, after three weeks in captivity, O País reports
The businessman was rescued at around 6:00 a.m. today from a house in the Silica neighbourhood, Boane district, where he was being held, after having changed location twice in the first two weeks of his abduction.
The kidnappers initially demanded a US$5 million ransom, which gradually dropped to US$300,000, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) reported.
Police arrested two men and a woman identified as the girlfriend of the probable mastermind in South Africa, in connection with the case. The female, Priscila, was promised 150,000 meticais for her participation in the crime, and destroyed the cell phone used to maintained communication with her boyfriend to cover his tracks
Adolfo, another member of the gang, said it was easy to accept the invitation because he would have 50,000 rand in his pocket overnight. The other detainee, Yuran Tembe, denies any involvement in the abduction, but admits that he is a cousin of the accused.
Local authorities say they are surprised by the turn of events, and that they have learned a lot in the process.
