About 5,000 inhabitants of the 25 de Setembro locality in Manhiça, Maputo province, are now stranded by the rising waters of the Incomáti river, Manhica’s Director of Planning and Infrastructure César Dindane has revealed.
The increase in the river flow results from the discharges from dams in South Africa, now at 100% of their storage capacity.
The Incometi river has now submerged the two drifts (causeways) that give access to the 25 de Setembro locality, and the level of flow in the Incomati basin are creating difficulties in providing relief to the besieged inhabitants.
