The rains registered since the weekend will increase runoff in the main river basins in southern Mozambique, a statement from ARA-Sul warns.
In the Maputo river basin, hydrometric levels have already exceeded the alert at the Madubula station in Catuane administrative post by 56 cm, yesterday reaching a level of 4.06 m.
This has resulted, according to ARA-Sul, in road traffic between the administrative post of Catuane and the town of Madubula being interrupted.
ARA-Sul also foresees the interruption of road traffic between the town of Madubula and the administrative post of Bela Vista.
In the Incomáti river basin, a similar increase in runoff is expected, the alert level being reached at Magude hydrometric station.
This, ARA-Sul predicts, will cause flooding in agricultural land in downstream stretches of the Incomáti river, hindering road traffic on the Maragra-Machubo, Maragra-Calanga, Magude-Chinhanguanine, Magude-Motaze sections, and on some secondary and tertiary roads.
ARA-Sul urges everybody to be careful when crossing the Umbeluzi, Maputo, Incomati and Limpopo rivers, and to keep abreast of flood warnings from the competent authorities.
