The month of January has been the peak of the rainy season in Mozambique and this year the country recorded a various contrasts in terms of rainfall, while in the south side dry weather prevails, on the other hand, the central and northern areas, are recording rainfall above normal.
The river Messalo, for example, in the province of Cabo Delgado is recording 21cm above the alert level which worries the authorities who appeal to all the people living on the river banks to withdraw.
“The basin of Messalo in the hydrometric station of Miangaleua, continued to experience rising levels, given the persistent rains in the region, which registers 3.71 meters, exceeding by 21cm of the alert level, it can get out of control and it’s prone to flooding, so, we urge the coastal communities to withdraw to other places,” said Ruth Nhamucho, the National Directorate of Water.
