The former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Angola, Ricardo Velloso, has taken office as the new head of mission to Mozambique, he confirmed to Lusa on Tuesday.
“I am the new head of the IMF mission to Mozambique, but I am based in Washington,” Ricardo Velloso told Lusa, adding that “Ari Aisen is our representative in Maputo, Mozambique”.
Asked about the main challenges facing Mozambique, Velloso declined to respond, saying that he had taken office very recently and was still unfamiliar with the economic specificities of the second largest Portuguese-speaking economy in Africa.
Ricardo Cicchelli Velloso will continue to serve as the IMF mission chief for Angola, which has Max Alier as its resident representative, “for two more weeks”, as it has not yet been announced who in Washington will follow the Angolan economy and the execution of the programme signed in April.
