Because of unfinished rehabilitation works, the Samora Moisés Machel Secondary and Pre-University School in Beira has still not started academic year 2021 classes, and is awaiting the arrival and setting up of tents in the next few days.
Provincial Director of Education, Tomás Viageiro, says the tents will be erected on the football field, and students will then be able to start classes.
School Director Fina Duarte says that ground floor classrooms are in fact able to accommodate students, but the replacement of ceilings is currently underway, and may compromise the learning process.
Five thousand and eleven students, ranging from Grades 8 to 12, have enrolled at Samora Machel for the present year, not including those on evening courses there, who will move to distance learning modalities.
Duarte said that the lists had already been posted, and that students had already confirmed their names.
Regarding provisions for the Covid-19 pandemic, Duarte explained that her school was adhering to the programme developed by the Ministry of Education and Human Development, and would teach classes of a maximum 25 students.
