Mozambique: Terrorists claim new attacks in Cabo Delgado
Face-to-face classes in the district of Muidumbe, Cabo Delgado province, have been resumed after a hiatus of more than a year, due not only to Covid-19, but also the lack of security that has characterised that part of the country since mid-2018.
Taking place in just three villages (Miteda, Lutete and Namande), classes continue in the shadow of the terrorist attacks in the province, which forces teachers to spend the night in Mueda, the district headquarters town, and one of the safest parts of the province.
According to ‘Carta’ sources, the teachers are escorted between Mueda and Muidumbe by the Defence and Security Forces.
It is not only the teachers who spend the nights in the headquarters town. So also do various technicians and employees of the Muidumbe district government, who still feel un safe in that part of the country.
