The government announced Monday that it would continue to abide by self-imposed restrictions on hiring state employees in 2019.
The Minister of State Administration and Public Administration, Carmelita Namashulua, said at the Parliamentary Commission of Public Administration and Local Government hearing that the state would only hire people in priority sectors such as health and education.
Namashulua said that hiring for all remaining sectors would proceed according to the ‘Three-to-One’ model, whereby only one employee would replace any three employees who resigned, died or retired.
In another hearing, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, assured the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee that the payment of overdue government invoices for the supply of goods and services would begin this month.
Maleiane reiterated that, in the initial phase, the government would pay in full debts of up to 60 million meticais, and 10% of debts above that amount for now.
