Mozambique is adopting a more modern approach to cross-border trade in order to minimise the clearance time for goods in transit to and from Mozambique using national railways, roads and ports.
Last Saturday, President Nyusi inaugurated the Ressano Garcia International Terminal in Maputo province at the main road border with the Republic of South Africa.
“The process has been streamlined. Migration, customs and health services are located almost in the same place and share information electronically,” he said, welcoming the fact that the new terminal now meets international standards.
The president, who last week paid a three-day working visit to Maputo province, told reporters that he was impressed by how the population faced their day-to-day problems. According to Nyusi, the population of the province had acknowledged that it was able to reverse the country’s present situation, and that it must be part of the solution to the problems.
“We saw ability to face adversity in the associations and companies we visited, where it was clear that young people and the general population understand that only by working can the situation of the country be reversed, and positive results are already visible. An example of this is the growth achieved in global production and revenues, with notable developments in sectors such as tourism and livestock,” the president said.
Nyusi mentioned other encouraging indicators of improving living standards, such as increased coverage of water and electricity supply networks.
