Mozambique, Switzerland strengthen ties as Chapo and Tim Enderlin meet in Maputo

President Filipe Nyusi said today that his ministerial reshuffle this week aimed to “strengthen the government’s capacity to respond to the challenges facing the country”.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace in Maputo at the inauguration ceremony of Ministers José Pacheco (Foreign Affairs and Cooperation), Max Tonela (Mineral Resources and Energy) and Higino Marrule (Agriculture), the head of state noted that the government would complete three out of its five years in office next month, so “time to keep our promises was running out”.

He asked the new incumbents to fine-tune priorities to comply with the executive’s five-year plan, adding that resources “are scarce”, and calling for “creative solutions” to finding additional resources from members of the government.
Nyusi directed part of his speech to each new minister. To José Pacheco he stressed that “in this cycle of government” we must focus on “economic diplomacy” to attract foreign investment. The new foreign affairs minister told reporters that he intended to respond to the challenge facing the private sector.
