Mozambique: Chapo commemorates Heroes' Day

Renamo has made known through its Secretary General, Manuel Bissopo, that it wants to see the military issues it has been negotiating with the government settled by December, in accordance with the terms of reference previously agreed with the government.
This process should culminate in the demobilisation, demilitarisation and reintegration [DDR] of Renamo guerrillas into the defence and security forces or reintegrated into society generally.
“The process is underway, but it is important to note that it does not follow a linear format. Military dossiers are always complex, because there are issues that must be analysed very carefully and, because they are military matters, at a given moment, the government “pulls” the process to its side,” Bissopo said.
Renamo, Bissopo continued, had a responsibility to ensure that what was bequeathed as a term of reference agreed between Renamo’s President Dhlakama and the Mozambican president was not violated.
“We believe that we will arrive at a happy ending, and Renamo’s greatest wish is that this process will be concluded this year. I am not directly involved in this process, but as a politician I have faith that everything will have a happy ending, especially without harm to the terms of reference,” Bissopo concluded.
