Renamo too appoints new members to joint commission

The Mozambican rebel movement Renamo on Tuesday announced its three new members for the Joint Commission between the government and Renamo, set up to prepare a face-to-face meeting between President Filipe Nyusi and Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama.
The three are: Jeremias Pondeca, a former deputy in the Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic; Leovigildo Buanacasso, the unsuccessful Renamo candidate for mayor of the northern city of Cuamba in a municipal by-election of 2014; and Maria Joaquina Inacio, who is a former member of the National Elections Commission (CNE).
They join Renamo’s existing team, which consists of Jose Manteigas, Andre Magibire and Eduardo Namburete, all of whom are parliamentary deputies.
The three were chosen by Dhlakama and announced to reporters by the Renamo national spokesperson, Antonio Muchanga, on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after Nyusi had doubled the government representation on the Joint Commission from three to six.
The government team now consists of former Security Minister Jacinto Veloso, former Justice Minister Benvinda Levi, former Minister of State Administration Alfredo Gamito, parliamentary deputy and former chief of staff of the armed forces, Antonio Hama Thai, the spokesperson for the parliamentary group of the ruling Frelimo Party, Edmundo Galiza-Matos Junior, and Alves Muteka, who is an official in the President’s office.
The proposal to increase the size of the Joint Commission, from six to 12, was made by Renamo, and the government side raised no objection.
