Mozambique: Mondlane acknowledges "less correct decisions"
O País / Renamo delegate Arlindo Bila
The country’s largest opposition party, Renamo, (National Resistance of Mozambique) says it is “prepared” for the 2018 municipal elections, and that it is already on the ground “in pre-campaign” mode.
This statement was made in Maputo on Saturday by Renamo delegate Arlindo Bila on the sidelines of the party’s start of the political year.
Members and supporters of Afonso Dhlakama’s party said that they would do everything they could to ensure that Renamo “wins elections in most of the country and in Maputo in particular”.
Bila acknowledged that in the last municipal elections, in 2013, Renamo had boycotted the process, “demanding the revision of the electoral law”, which “has not yet been considered but is already in the Assembly of the Republic for discussion and approval”.
During the opening meeting of the political year, party members and sympathizers took stock of the activities carried out in 2016 and planned for this year.
Speaking after the meeting, the delegate described last year as atypical, but said that despite the adversities, Renamo had been able to recruit more members in Maputo.
