Mozambique: Renamo criticizes President for suggesting reflection on the General Peace Agreement - ...
Sixteen Renamo members were temporarily held by police in Ribáuè, Nampula province, a few days ago, accused of inciting violence and choosing candidates for various government jobs under their party’s plan to assume the governance of the six provinces where they claim victory in the 2014 general elections from March.
Of those arrested, four have been charged, and all were later released.
According to A Verdade, Nampula Renamo MP José Leal and Provincial Assembly member Gaspar Mulessiua recently told several regions in that part of the country to get ready for the swearing in of staff for the governments promised by Afonso Dhlakama for next month.
Ribáuè administrator Emanuel Impissa told A Verdade that despite the turmoil in Nampula, the district is calm. Farmers in particular have been asked not to abandon work because of political and military tension.
However, Impissa said, “people of bad faith” had tried to destroy property in health centres and Frelimo party facilities.
