Chapo calls on young Mozambicans to build economic independence
Members of the Renamo Political Committee, family and friends yesterday said goodbye to José Manuel, killed on Saturday in the city of Beira, who was buried yesterday in Lhanguene cemetery in Maputo following a service at his church in the Mozal neighbourhood of Matola.
The ceremony was attended by Renamo Secretary General Manuel Bissopo, members of the Renamo political commission, family, friends and church members.
Family and friends described Manuel as a simple, dedicated man, and deplored the barbaric way was murdered.
Representing Afonso Dhlakama, Manuel Bissopo praised Manuel’s accomplishments and promised that Renamo would continue to pursue its ideals.
José Manuel Simango was born in July 1968 in Chibabava district of Sofala.
He was a lieutenant-colonel during the 1992-1993 war and a member of the Renamo political dialogue negotiating team. He acted as Renamo’s head of Social Affairs and Pensions, and was elected to the National Council of Defence and Security.
He leaves a widow and seven children.
