Renamo has reacted to the Constitutional Council ruling rejecting its appeal challenging voter registration results in Gaza province, Venâncio Mondlane qualifying it as a run over of legal science and a step backwards for democracy.
Nine days after Renamo submitted its appeal to the Constitutional Council disputing the results of the Gaza voter registration process and the consequent number of the province’s mandates for the next legislature, the response of the body was given.
After analysing it, the constitutional judges rejected Renamo’s appeal for its failure to comply with deadlines for submitting complaints or appeals to electoral administration bodies.
The Renamo representative reacted to the ruling on Wednesday, stating that the document was full of formalities and did not go to the substance of the matter.
Because the results were registered by STAE and ratified by the CNE, Renamo says it will file a criminal complaint with the Attorney General’s Office against members of every electoral administration who allegedly manipulated the census data in Gaza.
This was the first time a political party had appealed to the Constitutional Council to contest the results of a voter registration process.
